Old and very beautiful Boni headrest (Ethiopia), richly decorated and carved with geometric patterns. The outer sides are carved in the round, as well as the base which is also very worked. The lintel is also decorated as explained by O. Audouin p. 208, in our book Headrest from the Horn of Africa, Solomon's knot is surrounded by a triple square on which are placed four scorpion tails. Solomon's knot is also depicted on the sides of the lintel. The lintel has been restored (which is often the case in very old examples) using a plant link. Very nice dark brown patina, light wood. Height: 17.5cm. This type of headrest of this quality is now very rare...
