Toposa shield (South of Sudan)

Old Toposa shield (Sudan of the south) out of leather (hippopotamus?) with reinforcement and handle out of wooden bound of leather… Typical form of this kind of shield, but of great dimension what is not very usual (height: 91 cm with the top of the stick). Beautiful geometrical painting, natural pigments (laterite and kaolin),leather is extremely rigid. Beautiful patina on the parts out of wood, handle with a little damaged inside.Sold with base.
